More responsibility quietly claims your time. More success resets what feels “necessary” to maintain. More opportunity increases the pressure to keep saying yes. Over time, the pursuit stops fitting inside your life and starts reorganizing your life around it.
It rarely feels like a choice. It feels like momentum.
The Discipline of Enough
Make Ambition Serve You.
Without a boundary chosen on purpose, more becomes the default.

Most of us never decide what enough looks like. We assume we’ll recognize it when we get there. The Discipline of Enough argues that this is precisely the problem: without a boundary chosen on purpose, more becomes the default.
This is not a case against ambition. Ambition helps us build, lead, attempt difficult things, and create lives we once only imagined. But meaningful pursuits are very good at making the case for more—and every increment of more has a cost.
The harder work is deciding what future we’re building toward, what deserves our best effort, what stays protected while we pursue it, and what we’re no longer willing to trade away in the name of more.
Because if life won’t tell you when you’ve arrived, you have to decide for yourself.

04 / ABOUT THE AUTHOR
What deserves our effort?
What deserves protection from it?
Brian C. Campbell spent more than three decades building a life around the U.S. Army, from enlisting in 1994 through his retirement in 2026. Like many, he spent years letting ambition carry him from one worthwhile opportunity to the next before confronting a harder question: whether it was building the life he actually wanted.
He lives in Central Texas with his family.
